History and information
STATE PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL FOR THE TREATMENT OF DRUG ADDICTION AND ALCOHOLISM (DPBLNA)
The State Psychiatric Hospital for the Treatment of Drug Addictions and Alcoholism (DPBLNA) is the only specialized medical facility of its kind in Bulgaria for the provision of health care to persons with drug addiction and alcohol addiction, containing in itself the characteristics of health facilities in the Republic of Bulgaria.
DPBLNA is an institution with long traditions. The beginning was laid back in 1969 as an office for the treatment of alcoholism and smoking. The hospital received its current status as a legal entity of budgetary support to the Ministry of Health with Decree of the Council of Ministers No. 363 of 29.12.2004.
The scope of activity of DPBLNA includes prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of abusive and dependent persons, persons with mental disorders caused by alcoholism and drug addictions. Patients do not pay for their stay and the services offered, regardless of whether they have health insurance or not.
Main treatment methods and approaches are screening, outpatient detoxification, individual and family psychotherapy and counseling, methadone maintenance program, "Day Center" program, Club of addicted patients in treatment and their families - an innovative method directly aimed at working with the patient's family, based on the globally recognized methodology of Prof. Hudolin.
Activity
The actual hospital activity of the DPBLNA is carried out in the inpatient block in Sukhodol quarter, which includes wards with 40 beds. The hospital was built on public-state property with the Ministry of Health as the principal.
The senior medical staff includes 13 people - specialist doctors with one or more acquired specialties and scientific degrees, some of whom are also professors at the Medical University - Sofia.
The hospital's staff, including doctors, psychologists, social workers, health care professionals, etc., are trained to work in programs incorporating the best of European experience in the implementation of activities of a medical and psycho-social nature. These programs are aimed at providing a new model of health care and forming a new way of life for patients, increasing their adaptability and personal abilities in order to improve their social functioning and facilitate their reintegration into society.
DPBLNA is managed and represented by a director. These functions are currently performed by Dr. Vladimir Nikolov, who has over 30 years of experience
DPBLNA is a training base for students and specialists in medicine and social activities from Medical University, Sofia and New Bulgarian Universities.
